NPP's Electoral Post-Mortem: Prof Mike Ocquaye Review Committee to Submit Findings by March 31

Accra, Ghana - 19 March, 2025 - Ghana's New Patriotic Party (NPP) is racing against time to diagnose its electoral woes, with the party's review committee set to submit its findings by March 31, 2025.
The committee, chaired by Prof. Mike Oquaye, was established to scrutinize the NPP's defeat in the 2024 general elections, which saw President John Dramani Mahama return to power.
The NPP's National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, underscored the significance of the committee's report, saying it will inform the party's strategy for the 2028 elections.
He disclosed in an interview on the Eyewitness News on Citi FM that Prof Ocquaye will submit the report by March 31.
“The party commissioned the Aaron Mike Oquaye Committee to review the [2024] elections. In fact, in 2020, even though we won, we still commissioned the Yaw Osafo-Marfo Committee to look into the performance of the party in the 2020 elections and they did quite a very good job and so we are waiting for the Aaron Mike Oquaye Committee to wrap up their work.”
According to Mustapha, the review committee has been engaging with party members and supporters across Ghana's 16 regions and 276 constituencies. This nationwide tour has yielded valuable insights, which will be incorporated into the committee's report.
The NPP's defeat in the 2024 elections was a significant setback, with the party losing several parliamentary seats to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
