Fire Rips Through Maaha Beach Resort, 18 Rooms Destroyed

Ellembelle, Western Region - 29 May, 2025 - A devastating fire outbreak ripped through the Maaha Beach Resort in the Ellembelle District of Ghana's Western Region on the night of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
According to the Ellembelle District Fire Commander, DO2 Mark Hamilton, a total of 18 rooms at the resort were destroyed, although fortunately, no lives were lost in the blaze.
“For Maaha Beach, 18 rooms were affected. For Vision Resort, 15 rooms were affected. There were no casualties. As we speak, the situation is under control. The rooms that were affected had no occupants. Maaha is operational,” he stated in an interview with Citi News.
The fire, which is believed to have started around 7 p.m. at the adjacent Vision Beach Resort, quickly spread to parts of the Maaha Beach Resort, damaging significant portions of its infrastructure. Firefighters responded swiftly, arriving at the scene within minutes of the call being placed at 07:59 hours.
“The call was placed at 07:59 hours, and we arrived at the scene by 08:04 hours. There was no issue with the fire tender from Ghana Gas — in fact, that was the first one dispatched and it arrived in under four minutes.
“We later called for a second pump from another station to assist, so we had two pumps on site,” he clarified.
Despite initial eyewitness claims that the Ghana Gas fire tender was unable to assist due to the type of chemical it uses, DO2 Hamilton clarified that the tender was, in fact, the first to be dispatched and arrived in under four minutes.
The fire was eventually brought under control around 10 p.m., thanks to the efforts of firefighters from Axim and nearby areas who were called in to assist. An eyewitness described the challenges faced in containing the fire, noting that it started at Vision Beach and spread to Maaha Beach, with the flames engulfing more structures before help arrived.
DO2 Hamilton assured the public that the situation was under control and that Maaha Beach Resort was still operational, despite the damage.
The incident has left many questions unanswered, and an investigation will be crucial in determining the cause of the fire and preventing similar incidents in the future.
The Maaha Beach Resort is a popular destination in the Ellembelle District, and the fire outbreak has sent shockwaves through the local community.
