Ex-NSB Boss Kwabena Adu-Boahene Alleges Special Ops Funds Paid MPs' Allowances

Accra, Ghana - 07 May, 2025 - Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signal Bureau (NSB), has made new claims in a letter from custody, alleging that GHS 960,000 from Special Operations funds was used to pay allowances to members of Parliament's Defence and Interior Committee.
This payment, he claims, was made to facilitate the passage of the National Signals Bureau Act, a legislation crucial to the agency's operations.
Adu-Boahene's claims come amid ongoing investigations into corruption allegations against him.
In the letter, dated May 5, 2025, and addressed to the National Security Coordinator, he denied misappropriating funds and instead asserted that the Special Operations budget was used for legitimate purposes, including payments to MPs.
The former NSB boss also questioned the Attorney-General's attempts to link legitimate expenditures with personal assets acquired before or unrelated to the transactions in question. He accused the EOCO boss, Raymond Archer, of misrepresenting facts and potentially harming national security interests.
Adu-Boahene's letter referenced specific entries in the Special Operations expenditure log, including GHS 5,135,000 spent on "Election Special Ops – Logistics" in December 2024 and GHS 520,000 spent on "Human Security Ops – Generators" in 2024. He maintained that these expenditures were legitimate and within the purview of Special Operations.
The new claims made by Adu-Boahene add complexity to the ongoing investigations, raising questions about the use of Special Operations funds and the role of MPs in the passage of legislation.
