EC Meets with Police to Resolve Ablekuma North Parliamentary Seat Dispute
Jean Mensa is Ghana's Electoral Commissioner

Accra, Ghana - 30 May, 2025 - The Electoral Commission (EC) has intensified efforts to break the deadlock in the Ablekuma North parliamentary election impasse, holding a series of high-level meetings with the Ghana Police Service.

The constituency has been without a Member of Parliament since the start of the 9th Parliament due to a dispute between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates in the December 2024 elections.

The NDC's Ewurabena Aubynn and the NPP's Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie have both claimed victory, despite the EC's failure to officially declare a winner, hence, the NDC calling for a fresh election with the NPP insisting the EC should declare results based on the December 7 vote.

The stalemate began when disruptions occurred during the final collation process in January 2025, after unverified pink sheets surfaced, causing a security crisis at the collation centre.
