Ask John Mahama where the SADA Guinea fowls are - Bawumia
A war of words has erupted between Ghana's two main presidential contenders, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), over their respective development records.
Dr. Bawumia, who addressed a campaign rally in Saboba, accused the NDC of failing to deliver on its promises to develop the five northern regions during its time in power. He cited the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) initiative, which he claimed was marred by mismanagement and corruption.
The NPP flagbearer also ridiculed the NDC's explanation for the failure of its guinea fowl farming project, which was intended to boost economic development in the north. The project has become a symbol of the NDC's alleged incompetence and corruption.
“In this election, there are two of us, isn’t it? Myself and the former president. During his time, all the money, hundreds of millions that were given to him [John Dramani Mahama] to develop the north, he said he was raring guinea fowls.
“Guineafowls under SADA and we have not seen one SADA project in the five northern regions. Is there a SADA project in Saboba?
“We asked him, where are the guinea fowls and he said they have flown to Burkina Faso. And today, he says he wants to come back. Do you want him to come back?” he stated.
The NDC has yet to respond to Dr. Bawumia's criticisms, but the party has been emphasizing its own development achievements in recent weeks.
The presidential election, scheduled for December 7, is expected to be a closely contested affair, with both parties competing for votes in key regions.
