Amenfi Central: High Court order raises questions over NDC candidate's eligibility
Amenfi Central, Ghana - A petition filed by Gyedu Frimpong, a native of Amenfi Central, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reject Joana Cudjoe Gyan's nomination forms due to an injunction from the High Court in Takoradi.
The injunction, granted in Suit Number E112/36/24, restrains the EC from accepting Mrs. Gyan's nomination.
Allegations of Forgery
The petition alleges that Mrs. Cudjoe presented a voter ID with 11 digits, contrary to the standardized 10 digits required by the Public Election's Regulations. Furthermore, it claims she had two different voter ID numbers on her membership ID card, one of which belongs to Seidu Bala. These allegations suggest that Mrs. Cudjoe may have forged official documents to contest the parliamentary primaries.
Court Order
The High Court in Sekondi has also ordered Mrs. Cudjoe to stop holding herself as the NDC Parliamentary Candidate elect for Amenfi Central due to these allegations. This development raises questions about her eligibility to contest the elections.
NDC's Stance
Despite the controversy, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed Joana Cudjoe Gyan as their Parliamentary Candidate for Amenfi Central ². The party's National Executive Committee stated that she was elected through acclamation after a rerun.
Implications
The petition emphasizes that individuals with integrity and respect for the rule of law should serve the public. It urges the EC to reject Mrs. Cudjoe's nomination forms to uphold this principle.
