Education Ministry Dismisses Reports of Scrapped Teacher Trainee Allowances
Haruna Iddrisu is Ghana's Education Minister

Accra, Ghana - 05 Feb, 2025 - The Ministry of Education has dismissed reports claiming that the government plans to scrap teacher trainability allowances.

According to the Ministry, these reports are misleading and stem from a misunderstood statement by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu during a meeting with the Principals of Colleges of Education.

The Ministry clarified in a statement that the government remains committed to supporting students in Colleges of Education and is exploring ways to enhance financial assistance. The government will maintain the allowances until a new agreement is reached with stakeholders.

The Ministry urged the public to disregard the misleading reports and rely on official communication for accurate information.

“The Ministry has taken note of a front-page publication in the Tuesday, 4th February 2025 edition of The Daily Graphic with the headline ‘Teacher Trainee Allowance to go. The headline is not only sensational but misleading, as their narration of the story indicated,'' portions of the statement read.
