Minority Opposes Sam George Approval as Communications Minister, Abstains from Voting
Samuel Nartey George is the Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations.

Accra, Ghana - 05 Feb, 2025 - The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed opposition to Samuel Nartey George's appointment as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations.

Afenyo-Markin cited George's conduct and statements, particularly his claims that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo benefitted from galamsey, as reasons for their stance.

“We believe that only a few people in this country get the opportunity to become president of this nation. In governance, a president encounters a lot of challenges, some he may not even know, and for the nominee to insist that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo benefitted from galamsey is most unfortunate,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

The Minority Leader also criticized George for failing to provide requested documents and for holding other public officers to high standards while allegedly not meeting those same standards himself.

“This is the same nominee who has been holding other public officers to high standards and if you are demanding high standards and if you are demanding from other public officers accountability, then the rule is clear: he who comes to equity must do equity and he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.''

“Mr. Speaker, we are simply saying on the basis of these, we maintain our opposition and therefore will express our protest in a vote only against this nominee and we do so without prejudice,” he added.

However, Sam George responded via s ocial media post that he had submitted all necessary documents to Parliament's Appointments Committee, reaffirming his commitment to transparency and serving the nation.

“For the avoidance of any doubt and to settle any controversy, yesterday, I submitted to the Appointments Committee all the documents required of me, and more,” George wrote on his X account (formerly Twiter).
