Accra, Ghana - 05 Feb, 2025 - The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has vowed to restore 70% of Accra's streetlights within the next 50 days.

This initiative, according to her is aimed at boosting security and visibility in the capital city.

Ocloo emphasized that fixing faulty streetlights is a top priority, and she plans to collaborate with the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to achieve this goal during a press briefing on Monday, February 3.

“In fact, within 50 days in office, all these things should be fixed. I will make sure that at least 70 percent of the streetlights should be fixed,'' she stated.

“So these are some of the things we are going to check, and like I said, I am going to work together with the MMDAs,'' she added.

The Regional Minister also outlined her key focus areas, including security and sanitation. To tackle sanitation, she announced plans to revive the Regional Sanitation Day and introduce an award scheme for the cleanest city.

Ocloo further pledged to support local assemblies in becoming self-sufficient, as part of the government's "Resetting Agenda." She also aims to foster closer ties with traditional authorities and religious organizations to enhance decentralization and participatory governance.
