EC to Rerun Ablekuma North Parliamentary Election in 19 Polling Stations
Accra, Ghana - 2 July, 2025 - The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced that it will rerun the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency in the Greater Accra region on July 11.
This decision follows a prolonged dispute over the constituency's results, which has left the area without a Member of Parliament.
The dispute arose after the December 7 voting, when supporters of political parties stormed the collation centre, destroying physical documents. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been at odds over the results, with the NDC calling for a rerun in all 37 polling stations and the NPP insisting that results from the remaining polling stations should be collated and a winner declared.
After meeting with representatives of both parties, the EC announced its decision to rerun the election in 19 polling stations, while results from 18 polling stations that were verified and confirmed by presiding officers will stand.
The Commission, in a statement, has assured the public of its impartiality and commitment to electoral integrity and has requested the Ghana Police Service to provide adequate security during the rerun.
The rerun is expected to bring closure to the prolonged electoral dispute and pave the way for the constituency to have a representative in Parliament.
The Ablekuma North constituency has been without a Member of Parliament since the December 7 election, and the rerun is expected to determine the winner of the seat.
