EC Rules Out Re-Run of Ablekuma North Parliamentary Election
Accra, Ghana - 19 June, 2025 - The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed calls for a re-run of the 2024 parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North constituency, citing that results from three outstanding polling stations can still be collated.
According to Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Corporate Affairs, a re-run would only be considered if all avenues to obtain the results are exhausted.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Dr. Asare emphasized that the EC is yet to reach a point where it would declare the results irretrievable.
“So, for Ablekuma North, we have not reached the point where we will say we don’t have the results. When we try and we cannot get the results, that is when we will resort to the rerun. The rerun will be a last option,” he said.
The EC's stance suggests that the commission is optimistic about collating the outstanding results, which could potentially determine the outcome of the parliamentary election in the constituency. The development has brought some clarity to the ongoing electoral process, although the final outcome remains to be seen.
