East Legon Accident: Police confirm suspect's detention at Osu correctional centre
Accra, Ghana - Nov 5, 2024 - The Ghana Police Service has dismissed social media rumors claiming that the 16-year-old suspect involved in the East Legon accident, which resulted in two fatalities, is not in custody at the Osu Correctional Centre.
According to the police, the teenage son of popular preacher Salifu Amoako was indeed taken to the correctional center following a court order issued on November 1, 2024, and remains there in detention.
The police emphasized that spreading false information is an offense under Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and warned individuals against publishing misinformation.
As part of their investigation, the authorities have identified two social media accounts linked to the false claims: a TikTok user with the handle "prisywanlov1" and a Facebook user named "EmpressPapa A-Amigos".
The police are working to uncover the identities of those behind these accounts to take legal action. They expressed concern over the misuse of the tragic event, stating that it's unfortunate some individuals are using the situation to draw attention to themselves.
The police urged the public to refrain from spreading false information, allowing the affected families to mourn in peace. This appeal comes as the police continue to investigate the accident and ensure justice is served.
