DVLA to Expand Services to Six Countries to Combat Fake Licenses

Accra, Ghana - 08 May, 2025 - The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is set to expand its services beyond Ghana's borders in a bid to combat the use of fake licenses among Ghanaians living abroad.

According to DVLA CEO Julius Neequaye Kotey, the authority plans to establish offices in six countries, including Germany, the UK, the USA, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa.

“The DVLA under my leadership, together with Foster Yeboah, is going to open six new stations, which are going to be outside Ghana to address licensing issues. So far, we have approached some embassies, and we have been able to get Germany, UK, USA, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa on board. We are going to begin piloting with them,” he stated.

The initiative, which will begin with a pilot phase in select countries, aims to provide Ghanaians living abroad with legitimate licenses and reduce the prevalence of fraudulent documents. Kotey revealed this plan during the commissioning ceremony of a new state-of-the-art DVLA office in the Adentan Municipality.

The new Adentan office will offer 24-hour service delivery, including driver licensing and vehicle registration.

Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe urged the DVLA to enhance its service delivery and fulfill its responsibilities during the ceremony.

“On behalf of the president we charge DVLA, to improve service delivery. They are responsible for registering and ensuring that any vehicle that plies our road is roadworthy.

“They are to ensure that they register every vehicle and provide that kind of quality service to the people of Ghana,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of the authority's role in ensuring road safety and registering vehicles.
