DRIP Initiative has Recruited and Trained Over 4,400 Personnel to Improve Road Conditions in Ghana - Vanderpuye
Accra, Ghana - 27 June, 2025 - Ghana's government has embarked on a major initiative to improve road infrastructure in rural areas through the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP). The program has recruited over 4,400 personnel to support the development of roads in underserved communities across the country according to Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the National Coordinator of DRIP,.
In an interview with Citi FM, Vanderpuye disclosed that the recruits are currently undergoing intensive training to ensure they can safely and efficiently operate road construction machinery.
According to him, the training is aimed at building the technical and operational capacity of the personnel, who include one coordinator and 16 equipment operators per district.
“Some of the people who were handling the equipment were not sufficiently trained,” Mr Vanderpuye said. “You know, with some of the tipper trucks, you must know the level you should go.
There are so many things to learn about managing the equipment. So we have to take our time now.”
The program is part of the government's broader agenda to boost rural accessibility and stimulate local economic development through targeted infrastructure investment.
President John Dramani Mahama has committed to issuing a formal employment warrant to integrate the DRIP recruits into the local government system, which will regularize their status as staff of the district assemblies.
