Deputy IGP Yohuno Accused of Ordering Defiance of Administration Directives
Accra, Ghana - December 29, 2024 - A shocking allegation has rocked the Ghana Police Service, with a sergeant claiming that the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, instructed him and 10 other officers to defy directives from the Police Administration, sparking concerns about a potential breakdown in the chain of command.
This bombshell has raised serious questions about discipline within the police service and the potential breakdown of hierarchy and control.
According to Sergeant David Ojeyim, he and his colleagues were recruited for an "Intelligence Gathering" operation dubbed "Operation D-Day" by ASP Jalil Bawa, who allegedly acted on instructions from Deputy IGP Yohuno. However, Sgt Ojeyim contends that ASP Bawa lacked the authority to recruit or instruct them.
The situation took a dramatic turn when Sgt Ojeyim and his team received a transfer directive, only to be told by Deputy IGP Yohuno to disregard it as "dubious and without justification." This alleged instruction has sparked concerns about the integrity of the police service and the potential consequences of disobeying orders.
The officers involved have been interdicted pending a service inquiry, but with the case now before the High Court, any disciplinary action will have to wait until the court proceedings are concluded. The implications for Deputy IGP Yohuno remain uncertain, pending the adoption of the testimony in court.
