Nigeria Shatter Ghana's CHAN Dreams with 3-1 Convincing Win
Uyo, Nigeria - December 29, 2024 - Nigeria's Super Eagles B have secured their spot in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a dominant 3-1 victory over Ghana's Black Galaxies in Uyo.
The hosts took control of the match from the outset, with a blistering first-half performance that left Ghana reeling. Nigeria's Ismaila Sodiq opened the scoring in the 19th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to slot the ball past goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
The Super Eagles B doubled their lead just three minutes later, with captain Nduka Junior poking the ball home from close range amidst a chaotic scramble in the Ghanaian penalty area.
Ghana's woes continued as Saviour added a third goal in the 25th minute, rounding Asare and rolling the ball into an empty net. The Black Galaxies struggled to regain their footing, with a potential goal controversially ruled out due to the absence of VAR technology.
Despite a more conservative approach in the second half, Nigeria maintained their grip on the match. Ghana managed a consolation goal in the 73rd minute through Stephen Amankona, but it proved too little, too late.
The defeat marks a bitter disappointment for Ghana, who had reached the quarter-finals in the previous edition. Nigeria, meanwhile, will join the 2025 CHAN tournament, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in February.
