Muntaka Promises Inclusive Recruitment Process for Ghana's Security Services as Interior Minister

Accra, Ghana - 24 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Interior Minister-Designate, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has vowed to reform the recruitment process for the country's security services, citing concerns over fairness and inclusivity.

During his parliamentary vetting, Muntaka pledged to review the regional quota system, which has been criticized for marginalizing minority groups. He emphasized the need for a transparent and balanced process that reflects Ghana's diverse population.

Muntaka expressed concerns that the current system may be perpetuating inequality, with some regions receiving disproportionate representation. He assured the Appointments Committee that he would work closely with security service heads to address these concerns and ensure a more equitable recruitment process.

“I’m going to a ministry that has a lot of professionals that are experts in their fields, you can’t doubt the expertise of the Inspector General of Police, neither will you doubt the Director General of Ghana Prisons and the likes.

“And I’m going to be a team member that would be working with them. Together with them we have to review. Over the last 30 years or 40 years, since we started this 4th Republic, how have we done it? Has it served the purpose? If there are lapses, we will look at it and review it in the best interest of the country,'' he added.
