Dafeamekpor Drags Ntim Fordjour to Court Over Social Media Post

Accra, Ghana - 13 May, 2025 - The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has dragged his colleague, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, to court over a social media post he claims has tarnished his reputation.

According to court documents, Rev. Fordjour allegedly published a post on May 8, 2025, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), accusing Mr. Dafeamekpor of accepting a bribe of GH¢360,000 to facilitate the passage of a Legislative Instrument (L.I.) while serving as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation.

The allegations stem from claims made by Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former National Signals Bureau boss, who is currently facing charges of stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. Mr. Adu-Boahene had explained that allowances were paid to MPs on certain committees, including the Subsidiary Legislation Committee, during the passage of the NSB Act and its accompanying L.I.

Mr. Dafeamekpor has vehemently denied the allegations, describing the post as "false, malicious, and defamatory." He claims that the post has caused him economic harm, loss of business, and emotional distress. The MP is seeking a retraction and public apology from Rev. Fordjour, as well as an interlocutory injunction to restrain him from making further defamatory statements.

“The Plaintiff has further suffered economic harm, loss of business, disruption to his professional activities, and extreme emotional distress as a result of the widespread dissemination and continuous accessibility of the defamatory statements,” the suit reads.

“The Plaintiff says that the defamatory statements made by the Defendant and published on ‘X’ formerly ‘Twitter’ are untrue and same was made with calculated malice, aforethought in order to paint the plaintiff as a person who is corrupt and accepts bribes to pass Legislations of Parliament.”

The case has been adjourned to May 26 for a case management conference. Mr. Dafeamekpor, who also serves as the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, is determined to clear his name and restore his reputation. Rev. Fordjour's post had called for a full-scale investigation into the alleged misappropriation, claiming that the NDC and all individuals implicated would be held accountable once a probe begins.
