Court Orders EC to Complete Results Collation in Techiman South, Okaikwei Central, Two Others
Accra, Ghana - 04 Jan, 2025 - A High Court in Accra has issued a directive requiring the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of results in four disputed constituencies by January 6, 2025.
The affected areas are Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South.
The court's ruling stems from mandamus applications submitted by New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates in the impacted constituencies. Justice Forson Agyapong emphasized that the EC has a public duty to collate all results, citing instances where the commission failed to include outstanding polling stations in its declarations.
Key findings by the court include:
- Tema Central: The EC's failure to include two outstanding polling stations rendered its duty unfulfilled.
- Ablekuma North: The EC's declaration based on 219 out of 281 polling stations was deemed incomplete.
- Okaikwei Central: The EC failed to perform its public duty by declaring results based on 110 out of 141 polling stations.
- Techiman South: The EC's declaration based on only 135 out of 282 polling stations was found to be incomplete.
The court has also directed the Inspector General of Police to provide adequate security during the collation exercises.
