Court Discontinues Prosecution in Ahmed Suale Murder Case

In a shocking development, the Madina District Court has discontinued the prosecution of Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the suspect accused of murdering investigative journalist Ahmed Suale in 2019. The court's decision was made on October 14, 2025, following a directive from the Attorney General's Office to withdraw the case.

Ahmed Suale, a prominent member of the Tiger Eye P.I. investigative team, was shot and killed by unknown assailants on January 16, 2019, near his family house in Madina. The journalist's murder sparked widespread condemnation and calls for justice, with many suspecting that his investigative work had led to his killing. Suale had been part of an investigative journalism piece exposing corruption in Ghanaian football and human body parts sold for ritual magic in Malawi.

During the proceedings, Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo, the prosecutor, informed the court that the Attorney General had advised that the case be discontinued. "We have been directed to discontinue the case upon the advice of the Attorney General," she told the court. Following the prosecution's withdrawal, the presiding judge ordered that Daniel Owusu Koranteng be discharged.

The decision is expected to reignite public debate over the state's commitment to securing justice for Ahmed Suale, whose murder remains unsolved more than six years after his death. Suale's family had expressed disappointment in the government over their failure to find the killers, with his brother, Ibrahim Kamilu Tahidu, saying the family felt like it was being ignored.
