TUSAAG threatens nationwide strike over unmet demands
Accra, Ghana - Ghana's Technical University Senior Administrators' Association (TUSAAG) is on the verge of declaring a nationwide strike by the end of September 2024, citing the government's failure to honor their collective bargaining agreement.
This according them comes after numerous broken promises, despite a directive from the Ministry of Finance in May 2024 to implement revised allowances for senior public university members.
In a statement dated September 8, 2024, TUSAAG expressed frustration over the government’s failure to honour their collective bargaining agreement despite numerous promises.
Key Demands:
- Payment of Agreed-upon Allowances: Vehicle maintenance, off-campus, fuel, utility, and sanitation/security allowances
- Implementation of Collective Bargaining Agreement: Signed addendum in July 2024, yet to be implemented
- End to Discrimination: Equal payment of common allowances for unions of the same class of workers at public universities
TUSAAG's frustration stems from the government's refusal to implement these changes, violating their rights.
If their demands aren't met, a nationwide strike will commence, affecting technical universities across Ghana.
It's worth noting that TUSAAG has taken strike action before, declaring a nationwide strike effective January 8, 2024, over similar grievances.
