Cabinet Greenlights Second Gas Processing Plant to Boost Power Supply

Accra, Ghana - 07 March, 2025 - In a bid to address the country's recurring energy challenges, Ghana's Cabinet has approved plans for the construction of a second gas processing plant according to Energy Minister, John Jinapor.

Mr. Jinapor stressed the need for swift action to boost energy security and provide a reliable power supply. In a press briefing at the Jubilee House, he announced that the Cabinet has given the green light to a comprehensive package of measures designed to address the country's energy challenges across the short, medium, and long term

According to him, the new facility is expected to augment the existing gas processing capacity, improving the reliability of natural gas supply for power generation. This move is part of a broader effort to tackle Ghana's energy challenges in the short, medium, and long term.

The project will be undertaken in partnership with the Finance Ministry, with the goal of increasing supply security and supporting Ghana's economic development.

“Cabinet has approved that in partnership with the Finance Ministry we take immediate steps in constructing a second gas processing plant. This gas processing plant will augment the shortfall and increase supply security,” he stated.

The approval of the new gas plant is seen as a significant step towards addressing Ghana's energy challenges and ensuring a more stable power supply for its citizens.
