Bernard Ahiafor Elected First Deputy Speaker as Ghana's 9th Parliament officially begins
Hon. Bernard Ahiafr is the newly-elected First Deputy Speaker of Ghana's 9th Parliament.

Accra, Ghana - 07 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's 9th Parliament has officially begun, marking a significant milestone in the country's democratic journey. The inauguration ceremony, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Parliament House in Accra, was attended by dignitaries, family members, and friends.

At the heart of this momentous occasion is Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who has been re-elected as Speaker of Parliament. Bagbin, a seasoned statesman with extensive experience in Ghanaian politics, was sworn in by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

His re-election is seen as a strategic move by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which secured a majority in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, NDC MP for Akatsi South has been elected First Deputy Speaker whereas, NPP MP for Fomena, Hon. Andrew Asiamah Amoako was elected as Second Deputy Speaker of Ghana's Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

Meanwhile, the NDC's leadership team remains unchanged, with Cassiel Ato Forson as Majority Leader, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Deputy Majority Leader, Governs Kwame Agbodza as Majority Chief Whip, and Ahmed Ibrahim as Deputy Majority Chief Whip.
