Be ready to either win or lose and accept the results - Goodluck Jonathan tells Ghana's Presidential Candidates

As Ghana prepares to head to the polls on December 7, international leaders are calling for a peaceful and credible electoral process. Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who leads the West African Elders Forum and the ECOWAS mission to Ghana, has urged candidates to accept the outcome of the polls in the interest of peace and democracy.

Jonathan emphasized the importance of delivering a credible election during a meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce on Thursday, Dec 5.

He stressed that Ghana's reputation as a beacon of democracy in the region must be maintained.

“We want elections that will be peaceful and transparent and credible, and then all the stakeholders will be happy. Just like the IGP said, we will plead with our own colleagues who are politicians to be peaceful.

“Only one person wins in an election, and so whenever you are going for an election, you should be ready to either win or lose,'' he stated.

The West African Elders Forum, comprising former presidents from West African states, is dedicated to resolving conflicts that may arise during elections. Jonathan's call for peaceful polls comes as tensions rise ahead of the elections, with concerns over the country's economic crisis and partisan divisions.
