Bawumia to Sign Peace Pact Ahead of Ghana's Presidential Polls

Ghana's Vice President and Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is set to sign a peace pact ahead of the December 7 elections, marking a significant commitment to a peaceful electoral process.

The announcement was made by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, during an interview on Joy FM.

"Surely he is going to sign the peace pact. He is very committed to it. In spite of all the back and forth and the conversations going on, we have just one Ghana," he stated.

The signing of the peace pact is a significant ritual in Ghana's electoral process, dating back to the 2012 general election. By signing the pact, political parties and their leaders pledge to respect the electoral process, accept the outcome of the elections, and resolve any disputes through peaceful means.

This commitment to peace is crucial, particularly amid rising concerns about security. Former President John Mahama recently criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for their absence at the National Peace Campaign launch. Mahama argued that their attendance was crucial, given their role in ensuring national security and peace.

The peace pact signing event, scheduled to take place in Accra, will be a significant milestone in Ghana's electoral process. It is expected to provide a positive signal to the support bases of the parties and candidates, promoting a sense of responsibility among political actors.
