Bawku Violence: Mahama Urges residents to Choose Harmony

Accra, Ghana - 07 March, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has made an emotional appeal for peace in the volatile Bawku region, where dozens of people have been killed in recent violence.
Speaking on the country's 68th Independence Day, President Mahama urged residents of Bawku and surrounding areas to put aside their differences and work towards a lasting resolution to the conflict.
“The people of Bawku and other areas, it is time for lasting peace to prevail. Our children deserve to inherit a peaceful land where their dreams are nurtured, not a place where their nightmares are relived. They deserve to inherit a land where our markets are bustling with trade, not tension and conflict. They deserve schools that echo with learning, not melancholy,” Mahama stated.
“Let us give renewal and friendship a chance. Let us give peace a chance. This is not an invitation to simply forget the past far from it. It is an invitation to live above it,” he added.
The region has been plagued by tensions and violence, resulting in the deaths of at least 56 people and prompting the imposition of a curfew. President Mahama's plea is seen as a crucial step towards restoring peace and stability to the troubled region.
