Auditor-General Cracks Down on Payroll Discrepancies with Nationwide Audit

Accra, Ghana - 09 April, 2025 - Ghana's Auditor-General has initiated a nationwide payroll audit, scrutinizing all entities on the Controller and Accountant-General's payroll system.

The comprehensive review covers Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and subvented organizations, focusing on payroll records from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024.

Acording to a statement from the Auditor-General's office, this audit aims to verify the accuracy of government payroll data and identify potential discrepancies. A full headcount of government-paid staff will be conducted to ensure transparency and accountability.

The Auditor-General's office has requested unrestricted access to relevant records, including digital and electronic documents, to facilitate a smooth audit process.

“The Office of the Auditor-General calls on all institutions to provide unhindered access to books, returns, and other documents, including computerized and electronic records, to ensure the audit is completed smoothly and within schedule,” portions of the statement said.
