Our CEO never blamed Russia for Cocoa smuggling - COCOBOD

Accra, Ghana - September 11, 2024 - The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has issued a statement clarifying recent media reports misattributing comments made by its Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, regarding cocoa smuggling activities.

COCOBOD emphasized that Aidoo never blamed the Russian government for cocoa smuggling, contrary to media reports.

Instead, the CEO expressed concerns about local individuals in Ghana smuggling cocoa to foreign nationals, including some Russians based in neighboring countries.

The clarification aims to prevent unnecessary diplomatic tensions and underscores the importance of accurate reporting, particularly on issues with potential international repercussions.

COCOBOD reassured the public of its ongoing efforts, in collaboration with local and international partners, to combat cocoa smuggling and protect the industry. The statement urged media houses to exercise greater accuracy in their reporting to avoid spreading misinformation.
