Accra, Ghana - 28 Jan, 2025 -  Ghana's Attorney-General, Dominic Ayine, has dropped all charges against two high-profile defendants, Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni, the former CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), and businessman Seidu Agongo who were facing 27 counts of corruption, fraud, and money laundering.

The case centered on the alleged procurement of substandard fertilizers for COCOBOD, resulting in financial losses to the state.

Despite maintaining their innocence throughout the trial, the two accused were granted bail of GH₵300,000.00 each. The trial was marked by controversies, including allegations of political undertones and perceived bias in the prosecution's approach.

This decision was announced at the Accra High Court on Tuesday, January 28, bringing an end to a high-profile trial that began in 2018.

The State Attorney did not provide reasons for the withdrawal, leaving many questions unanswered.
