Accra, Ghana - 20 March, 2025 - A surprise raid on the home of Ghana's former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, has sparked outrage, with the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, condemning the action.

The raid, allegedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, was carried out by about 20 heavily armed men.

According to news sources, the operatives, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles, stormed Dr. Addison's residence at Roman Ridge in Accra on Wednesday, March 19. They disabled the CCTV system and demanded that Dr. Addison lead them to supposed "vaults" in his house. However, Dr. Addison denied having any such vaults or caches of cash.

Despite the denial, the security personnel allegedly ransacked the house, but found no vaults or large amounts of cash. They seized the CCTV monitor and control unit before leaving. Dr. Addison, his wife, and their family are reportedly traumatized by the incident.

This raid is the second such incident targeting high-profile former appointees of the previous administration since President John Mahama took office. Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta's home was similarly raided in February.
