Ameyaw-Akumfi's Lawyer Withdraws from SkyTrain Case Amidst Trial
Accra ,Ghana – October 13,2025 - Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi's lawyer, Duke Aaron Sasu, has officially informed the court that he intends to withdraw from representing his client in a high-profile case involving allegations of financial mismanagement at the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF).
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi and former CEO Solomon Asamoah are standing trial over allegations of causing financial loss to the state and intentional dissipation of public funds related to a $2 million payment for the now-defunct SkyTrain project.
The court was informed that a misunderstanding had arisen between Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi and his lawyer, which is currently being mediated. The presiding judge, Her Ladyship Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, confirmed receipt of the letter from Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi's counsel indicating his decision to withdraw from the case.
Meanwhile, the court has adjourned an application filed by Solomon Asamoah seeking a stay of proceedings to October 20. His legal team filed the motion following an appeal against the court's earlier decision to deny a request for further disclosures.
