Akwatia Votes in Crucial by-election on September 2
Accra, Ghana – 30 July, 2025 - The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially scheduled a by-election in the Akwatia Constituency for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi.
Nomination forms will be received from prospective candidates from Monday, August 11 to Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the Denkyembour District Office of the EC. Submissions will be accepted between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
In a statement signed by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa, the Commission confirmed that the seat has become vacant in line with Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution, necessitating a by-election.
