Prof Mike Quaye Chairs NPP's 11-member committee to Investigate 2024 Election Loss

Accra, Ghana - 2 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched an investigation into its defeat in the 2024 elections, tasking an 11-member committee to uncover the reasons behind its loss.

Chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, the committee has three months to conduct its inquiry and report back to the National Council.

The committee's probe will focus on the party's internal elections and campaign strategy, identifying challenges that led to the electoral defeat and proposing solutions. This move comes after former President John Dramani Mahama's victory in the presidential election, securing 56.55% of the valid votes cast.

Mahama's win marked a significant return to office, with his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), also clinching a majority in Parliament. The NDC has secured over 180 seats, including key constituencies previously held by the NPP, strengthening Mahama's mandate as he prepares to resume the presidency.
