Ghana Police Probe Vandalism of President Akufo-Addo's Statue

A statue of Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo, located in Sekondi, Western Region, has been vandalised, sparking a police investigation. The statue, which was unveiled just ahead of Ghana's general elections, had been a subject of controversy among locals.

According to the Ghana Police Service, preliminary investigations have revealed that the statue's left leg has been damaged, and its plaque removed.

The police in a statement issued on Dec 16 stated that they were working to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

''The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigation into the damage caused to the statue of His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,  located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region.

''Preliminary investigations by the Police have revealed that the statue's left leg has been damaged, and its plaque removed,'' portions of the statement read.

The statue was erected at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout to honour President Akufo-Addo's contributions to the region, including the rehabilitation of the hospital and the construction of a three-tier interchange.

However, many residents had expressed their disapproval of the statue, calling it an act of self-glorification.
