Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II Re-elected as President of Ghana's National House of Chiefs
Accra, Ghana - Nov 22, 2024 - In a closely contested election, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II has been re-elected as President of Ghana's National House of Chiefs.
The Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area secured 42 votes, defeating his closest rival, Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, who garnered 30 votes.
Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II was also elected as Vice President of the House, winning 54 out of 73 votes.
The election was initially met with objections from some members, but a passed motion allowed the process to proceed as scheduled.
In his acceptance speech, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II emphasized the importance of unity among members and called for collective efforts to ensure peaceful national elections. He also pledged to uphold Ghana's cultural heritage and highlighted plans to digitize the House's operations to enhance efficiency.
The re-elected President also vowed to address pending litigation issues comprehensively, ensuring a smooth transition and a strong foundation for the House's future endeavors.
