Parliament Repeals E-Levy, Awaits Presidential Approval

Accra, Ghana - 26 March, 2026 - Ghana's parliament has passed the Electronic Transfer Levy Repeal Bill 2025 to scrap the contentious Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), paving way for increased digital transactions and economic growth.

The Electronic Transfer Levy, commonly known as the E-Levy, imposed 1% tax on electronic transactions such as mobile money payments, bank transfers, and inward remittances.

Initially introduced in 2022 at a rate of 1.75%, the levy faced intense opposition from the public and stakeholders.

The repeal, approved by parliament, is expected to return an estimated GH¢2 billion to the people, easing financial pressures and improving livelihoods, according to Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem.

The bill now awaits President John Dramani Mahama's signature to become law.
