"You’ll be punished and held accountable" – Mahama cautions potential appointees
The 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has issued a warning to possible appointees to his future government, emphasizing that they will be held accountable and punished for any malfeasance.
Speaking during the ceremonial kickoff of the party's campaign in Tamale, Northern Region, Mr Mahama emphasized that people seeking to serve in the next government must be devoted to modesty, honesty, hard work, and accountability.
He went on to say that, while his government holds the former administration accountable for any wrongdoing, anyone in his administration who is accused of misbehavior will face consequences.
"As we hold the previous government accountable for wrongdoing, if you serve in the next John Mahama government if you are accused of wrongdoing, you will also be punished and held accountable" he stated.
The former President assured Ghanaians that he will be truthful and avoid making promises he cannot keep as he campaigned for votes ahead of the December 7 election.
He admitted that his previous presidency had issues, but he maintained that Ghana had made progress throughout his time. If re-elected, he promised to remain transparent with citizens and to build on the foundations built by his predecessor.
He asked the audience to vote for the NDC, emphasizing his willingness to serve the country again with fresh vigor and a clear vision for Ghana's future.
"I’ve been out of government for eight years now. I did my best, I wouldn’t say things were perfect but at least we were making progress. What I can promise you is that I will be truthful to you, I will never tell you lies, I will never tell you things I cannot do" John Mahama said.
