EC declares Ernest Kumi as MP-Elect for Akwatia

Ghana's Electoral Commission has officially declared Ernest Kumi of the New Patriotic Party as the Member of Parliament-elect for Akwatia. This development comes after a contentious electoral process that saw multiple failed attempts to finalize results in the Eastern Region.

Ernest Kumi secured 19,269 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Henry Yiadom Boakye of the National Democratic Congress, who garnered 17,206 votes. The Akwatia constituency, traditionally an NPP stronghold, became a focal point of national attention in the December 7 elections.

The electoral process was marred by disputes, delays, and accusations from various quarters, making what should have been a straightforward declaration of results a prolonged and contentious affair.
