High Court to deliver judgment on Bernard Mornah's election disqualification today
Accra, Ghana - October 21, 2024 - The High Court will deliver its judgment today in the case of Bernard Mornah, flagbearer of the People's National Convention (PNC), who is challenging his disqualification from the 2024 presidential election.
Background
Mornah was one of 11 candidates disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) on September 20, 2024, due to errors in their nomination forms. Mornah claims the EC's decision was unfair and unconstitutional.
Mornah's Argument
The PNC flagbearer argues that the EC:
- Failed to communicate errors in his nomination form
- Denied him the opportunity to rectify errors
- Violated constitutional provisions
The judgment will determine Mornah's eligibility to contest in the 2024 presidential election. A favorable ruling could halt the printing of ballot papers and potentially alter the election landscape.
Mornah's Confidence
In an interview with Citi News, Mornah expressed optimism about the outcome, stating;
“It is not going to be anything dramatic. We expect that the court will do what is right by ensuring that the Electoral Commission is directed to admit me onto the 2024 ballot and then we can roll out our campaign in full as you are aware, the printing of material and other things are stalled.
“You know that I am the people’s president. So I am in high spirits and we are hopeful that judgement will be done as we committed no crime as to take us out of the ballot.”
