Samuel Dubik Mahama quits as ECG boss
Accra, Ghana - The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has resigned from his position, citing personal reasons.
Mahama's resignation comes as a surprise, having served only two years since his appointment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on May 16, 2022.
Mahama brought extensive experience to the role, serving previously as a non-executive director at ECG.
His professional background includes positions at GIHOC Distilleries, Gulfsouth Forest Products, Dubik & Associates, and Wilkins Engineering.
“I am writing to formally resign from my position as Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, effective two weeks from the above date. The decision has not come easily, but after much reflection, I have concluded that it is in my best interest to step away for personal reasons."
“Over the past two years and four months. I have had the profound honour of serving this esteemed organisation, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have received. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Board for your unwavering support and guidance throughout my tenure. I also wish to express my sincere gratitude to the President for the trust placed in me, which has been a significant aspect of my journey here," part of his statement read.
A legal practitioner and University of Ghana alumnus, Mahama's departure raises questions about his successor.
Details surrounding Mahama's resignation remain scarce, with ECG and government sources declining to comment.
His exit marks a significant change in Ghana's energy sector, sparking interest in who will next lead the ECG.
Mahama's resignation takes effect immediately, leaving the company to navigate the transition process.
