Alan Kyerematen proposes emergency audit to clean up Ghana's voter register

Accra, Ghana - Amid concerns over the integrity of Ghana's voter register, Alan Kyerematen, leader of Revolutionary Change (ARC), has called for urgent action to restore public confidence. Reports allege compromised data in the register, prompting the Electoral Commission (EC) to address the issue internally.

In a statement on September 25, Kyerematen proposed a high-level Technical Working Group (TWG) to conduct a comprehensive audit of the voter register. The TWG would comprise EC representatives, candidates, and data management consultants.

According to him, the audit would utilize key documents, including the 2020 Voters Register and voter transfer records. Members would also have access to original documents to verify authenticity and andidates with evidence of compromised data would submit it to the TWG before the audit.

"The proposed process outlined above mirrors a 'forensic audit' being advocated for by a section of the Ghanaian public, and ought to come up with a Voters Register acceptable to all contestants and voters in the upcoming 2024 General Elections."

"The timeline proposed for the exercise is from the 30th September 2024 to the 11th October 2024. This would enable the EC to release a Final Voters Register by the 14th October 2024," part of the statement read.
