Prisons Officer lynched at Kasoa, six suspects remanded
Kasoa, Ghana - October 7, 2024 - The Ghana Prisons Service has condemned the gruesome murder of Lance Corporal Gideon Adu Boakye, a prisons officer at Nsawam Medium Security Prison who was allegedly lynched by a group of unknown assailants at Kasoa Iron City on September 29, 2024.
The officer had sought permission to visit his relatives in Kasoa when the unfortunate event occurred.
The Ghana Prisons Service has condemned the act and assured that its leadership is committed to ensuring the perpetrators face justice.
In a statement issued on Sunday October 6, 2024, the Service expressed its condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased officer.
In a breakthrough development, six persons - four females and two males - have been remanded for their alleged involvement in the lynching.
The Ghana Prisons Service has cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of resorting to the Police to avoid harming innocent individuals.
The Service has urged all officers to remain calm as steps are being taken to ensure justice is served.
“The Prisons Administration is collaborating with the Police to unravel the circumstances that led to the gruesome murder of the officer,” it stated.
“So far, six (6) persons made up of four (4) females and two (2) males have been arrested and arraigned before the court. The suspects have thus been remanded for further investigation into the matter."
“The Service wishes to caution the general public against the use of “Instance Justice” in dealing with suspects but to resort to the Police to avoid harming and killing of innocent individuals.”
“The entire Service commiserates with the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased officer and urges all officers to remain calm as steps are being taken to ensure that justice is served,” it stated.
