Cocoa Carriers Association begins indefinite strike today, demands better conditions

Accra, Ghana - October 7, 2024 - The Cocoa Carriers Association has ordered its members at Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi depots of the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited to begin an indefinite sit-down strike, effective October 7, 2024.

The strike protests unresolved issues regarding members' conditions of service.

This action follows a similar strike in 2022, which left thousands of cocoa bags unattended at warehouses. The association seeks improved wages and working conditions.

National Chairman Raymond Atanga Abobiga confirmed the directive in an interview with Citi News on Sunday October 6, 2024, urging full participation from members.

“We are going to report at work but will be at the gate of the various warehouses and then we are not going to work until they attend to our needs and our demands.

“I want the management of COCBOD and our directors to know that we are not against an individual and that we are fighting a just cause,” he stated.
