Ofori-Atta Receiving Medical Treatment Abroad - Lawyers Claim
Ken Ofori-Atta is the immediate past Finance Minister

Accra, Ghana - 12 Feb, 2025 - A dramatic twist has emerged in Ghana's high-profile corruption investigation, as former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta's lawyers claim he is undergoing medical treatment abroad, despite being declared a fugitive by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The OSP has launched an investigation into suspected corruption and related offences involving multiple contracts, including the National Cathedral project, the Ministry of Health's procurement of ambulances, and the Electricity Company of Ghana's dealings with Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng declared Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive at a press conference on February 12, 2025, citing allegations of financial loss to the state in several dealings.

However, Mr. Ofori-Atta's lawyers responded, claiming that he is receiving medical treatment abroad and was unaware of the summons.

The lawyers also clarified that Mr. Ofori-Atta had informed both former Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and current Chief of Staff Julius Debrah about his medical trip earlier in January. They expressed willingness to provide any necessary information to support the investigation.

The development comes after security personnel raided Mr. Ofori-Atta's home in Accra, although the Special Prosecutor denied any involvement, stating that the raid was staged.
