NAGRAT Issues two-week ultimatum to Ministry of Education over TVET Teachers' concerns
Accra, Ghana - The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has given the Ministry of Education a two-week deadline to address pressing concerns affecting professional teachers in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.
According to NAGRAT, the Ministry failed to consult teacher representatives during the development of the TVET scheme of service, and unilaterally migrated teachers from the Ghana Education Service to TVET without their consent.
In an interview with Citi News, NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu revealed that the union has held talks with the Ministry, culminating in a two-week agreement to resolve the issues.
The ultimatum seeks to ensure the Ministry takes concrete steps to address the grievances of TVET teachers, including meaningful consultation and consent in decision-making processes affecting their careers.
“We have had a meeting and [during that meeting], the authorities have identified the anomalies and that they have also put measures in place to solve the anomalies.
“So we are supposed to give them two weeks to address the anomalies and then we will reconvene, look at the way the anomalies have been solved and then we will take it from there," he stated.
Failure to meet the deadline may lead to industrial action, as NAGRAT vows to protect the rights and interests of its members.
