Miner jailed 12 years for stabbing mason in Western Region
Ghana - October 4, 2024 - A 28-year-old miner, Joseph Ntiful, has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour for stabbing a mason, James Adu, with a knife on his back multiple times at Nsuaem in the Western Region.
Ntiful pleaded guilty with an explanation for causing unlawful harm, but the court, presided over by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu, rejected his explanation.
The incident occurred on June 4, 2024, at 8:30 pm, when Adu saw Ntiful standing beside a motorbike in his house and asked about his mission. Ntiful remained silent, prompting Adu to approach him, but Ntiful ordered him to stay away, became furious, and started insulting Adu.
A misunderstanding ensued, but other tenants intervened to prevent a fight.
However, Ntiful suddenly stabbed Adu with a knife, and Adu reported the incident to the Nsuaem Police station. Ntiful went into hiding, but police intelligence led to his arrest on July 22, 2024, at 4:30 am.
The court also ordered Ntiful to pay GH¢10,000 in compensation to Adu. Mrs. Manu emphasized that Ntiful's punishment would serve as a deterrent to Ghanaian youth.
