Mahama applauds OSP verdict and reiterates his commitment to transparency

Former President John Dramani Mahama's office has expressed satisfaction with the Office of the Special Prosecutor's (OSP) decision clearing him of all charges pertaining to the Airbus controversy.

Mahama's office emphasized in a statement issued after the OSP's judgment that the former president's integrity and commitment to truthfulness and openness have been reaffirmed throughout his political career.

“The OSP’s ruling reaffirms what we have always known: John Dramani Mahama is a man of integrity, a leader committed to the principles of honesty and transparency,” the statement read.

Mahama's team also used the moment to discuss the scandal's political background, denouncing what they perceived as attempts by the outgoing administration to use the problem for political advantage.

The statement, which was signed by special assistant Joyce Bawah Mogtari, noted that the current administration persisted in portraying the case as a political ploy even after the UK's Serious Fraud Office had earlier exonerated Mahama's brother and other parties involved.

A key finding in the OSP ruling was that President Nana Akufo-Addo had specifically asked for an investigation into Mahama. According to the statement, this raises more questions about the intentions behind the initial charges, which were purportedly made in an effort to damage Mahama's character.
