Allocate Funds Before Initiating Projects - Parliamentary Education Committee to Govt

Accra, Ghana - 11 May, 2025 - The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education is calling for the government to allocate funds for projects before initiating them, in a bid to tackle infrastructure deficits in schools.
According to the committee's Chairman, Peter Kwasi Nortsu-Kotoe, this approach would help prevent the wastage of public resources and ensure that projects are completed efficiently.
The call follows a recent tour of educational institutions in the Eastern Region, including the Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua Senior High Technical School, New Juaben Senior High School, and All Nations University.
During the visit, the committee assessed the impact of the double-track system and expressed satisfaction with the efforts of school authorities in managing existing resources.
Nortsu-Kotoe noted that the committee had taken note of the challenges faced by the schools and would advise the executive accordingly.
“Going forward, I think we should have a budget for projects before we start. So that we don’t waste public money or resources.”
The Deputy Ranking Member of the committee, Mustapha Ussif, encouraged school management teams to maintain their current level of achievement and continue their hard work, expressing the committee's appreciation for the government's efforts and the students' performance.
“We’re impressed with the government’s performance and the students,” he stated.
