Just In : Ato Forson acquitted in ambulance trial
Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has been acquitted and discharged in the Ambulance trial.

The Court of Appeal has acquitted and released Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, who was on trial for allegedly causing €2.37 million in financial loss to the state in an ambulance transaction.

The court ruled today (July 30) by a 2-1 majority that the prosecution did not establish a prima facie case for the Minority Leader to respond.

As a result, the court ruled that there was no basis for the trial High Court to summon Dr Forson to launch his defence.

The court issued its verdict today after upholding Dr. Forson's appeal against the trial High Court's decision to dismiss his submission of no case.

According to the trial judge, the minority leader had not demonstrated any statutory requirements that would warrant a mistrial in this instance, nor had he inquired into the Attorney General's affairs.

On Monday, June 3, Dr. Ato Forson filed a supplementary affidavit in support of the request on notice for an order of mistrial, injunction, or stay of proceedings in the current ambulance case against him and two others.

His lawyers then cited a leaked audio between the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, and the third accused, Richard Jakpa, in which the former reportedly attempted to teach the third accused to implicate Dr Ato Forson in the ongoing trial, as evidence for the motion.

Businessman Richard Jakpa was the third accused person in the ambulance trial

The court has also freed businessman Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the Ambulance trial.
