NDC group collides with police at Finance Ministry
Accra, Ghana - September 4, 2024 - A protest by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Brigade, a youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), turned chaotic at the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday, as members clashed with security personnel.
The group had gathered to protest alleged financial mismanagement under the current government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The ORAL Brigade has intensified its calls for accountability in recent weeks, scrutinizing several transactions, including the controversial $34.9 million Ambulance Spare Parts deal.
The protesters argue that the ambulance deal, intended to enhance emergency medical services, raises serious questions about the procurement process and fund utilization.
They also demand answers about the Ghana Revenue Authority's involvement with the Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) deal and full disclosure of expenditures for the 2023 All-African Games.
The protest, which started peacefully, escalated into chaos as security personnel attempted to disperse the crowd, leading to scuffles and arrests.
The incident has sparked concerns about the government's handling of public finances and the right to peaceful protest.
